Information on BWMNC
BMWNC is a company that incinerates hospital, medical, and infectious waste. They opened in 1985 and are currently asking Mecklenburg County to renew their permit to continue operation for the next five years. This plant operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Apparently there is some questions regarding the air quality from the smoke stacks and some are saying that neighborhoods within a five mile radius are showing an increase in allergies, asthma and cancer. Back in 1985 this area was not nearly as populated, now within the five miles there are 180 neighborhoods, two schools, a college and a hospital.
Here is some other information on this facility:
BMWNC at a glance Note - If you have already seen this, be sure to read the resolution document below. This was created through input by Mecklenburg and Union County residents.

Seniors Aging Gracefully With Enthusiasm and Spirituality
If you are 50 years of age or older and a Lake Park resident, why not consider joining Lake Park SAGES (Seniors Aging Gracefully with Enthusiasm and Spirituality).
Our activities include sing-a-longs, singers, dancers, speakers, day trips, picnics, potluck dinners, pie suppers, dinner out, bingo and other games; but mostly we enjoy the fellowship of each other’s company. Members can participate as much or as little as they desire.
Dues are only $12 a year; we usually meet on the 2nd Friday evening of each month. Transportation can be provided if necessary. Call Mary at 704 882-8263 for more information. We would love to welcome you to share in the good food, good fellowship, and good fun!

Lake Park Singles
We are a singles group made up forty five + year olds, mainly women, but men are also welcome. Most of us live in Lake Park and the surrounding areas.
We believe in the inclusion of all singles to network and belong to our community of singles who share similar circumstances and conditions such as living alone or caring for family members.
We meet twice a month. Once on the first Thursday of each month at the Lake Park Community Center at 7:00pm to plan our monthly calendar. Then we have a social night on the third Thursday of each month. It is held at rotating member homes where we enjoy fellowship and refreshments. After about an hour of visiting, some of us will then play various board or card games, while others enjoy discussing various subjects of interest. We laugh a lot and we care a lot about each other and our community. Our club is a social resource to meet and get to know others, who may want to go to a movie, go to dinner or play dominoes. We encourage you to visit one of our monthly meetings. For info, call: Connie Agard, Pres. 704 893 0055 Doris Baker, VP 704 882 5934 Gloria Lorenz, Treas. 704 882 4365 Carol Taylor, Sec. 704 882 0812

Lake Park Garden Club
The Lake Park Garden Club was established in 2001 to give Lake Park residents -
both men and women the opportunity to meet and share ideas and information on
gardening. We have grown into a social group as well as a service organization
engaging in community beautification projects. Friendships are made as we work
together to learn tips for our personal benefit and participate in maintaining
the flower bed in front of the Community Center and at several smaller places in
town. The Garden Club has purchased 2 picnic tables placed in Russell Park for
the enjoyment of all citizens. Recently, we have taken trips to local gardens of
interest and visited residents' yards to gather ideas.
Visitors are welcome on the third Monday of each month at the Community Center
at 7:00 PM COME AND SEE WHAT THE GARDEN CLUB IS ALL ABOUT!
